National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) Scholarship for Ontario Museum Professionals

The National Museum of African American History and Culture, in partnership with the Ontario Museum Association will sponsor up to 5 scholarships for Ontario Museum Association Members and Museum Professionals to attend the 2019 Association of African American Museums (AAAM) Conference in Jackson, MS, August 7-10.

Scholarships will be awarded to up to 5 individuals who are currently working in Ontario Museums on Afro-Canadian projects towards the understanding, interpretation, or presentation of the history, heritage, or experiences of Ontario’s Black community, or who have extensive prior experience in Afro-Canadian projects or institutions.  Selected individuals will be able to synthesize their learnings from the AAAM conference and bring them back to have an impact on their institutions or professional networks in Ontario.  The selected delegates are also asked to present a session at the OMA Annual Conference 2019 or other OMA Learning Event on some of their learnings from the AAAM Conference.  

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently working in an Ontario museum and working on Afro-Canadian projects towards the understanding, interpretation, or presentation of the history, heritage, or experiences of Ontario’s Black community, or have extensive prior experience in that area or with Afro-Canadian Institutions
  • OMA Member or willing to become an OMA Member
  • Able and willing to travel to Jackson, Mississippi for the AAAMC Conference, August 7-10, 2019

Selection Criteria:

  • Currently working in an Ontario museum and working on Afro-Canadian projects towards the understanding, interpretation, or presentation of the history, heritage, or experiences of Ontario’s Black community, or have extensive prior experience in that area or with Afro-Canadian Institutions
  • Ability to synthesize learnings and pass them on to their institutions and professional networks
  • Willing to present their learnings at the OMA Annual Conference 2019 or other OMA Learning Event

The scholarship will contribute to registration, travel, and accommodation.
