Inclusive Museum Leadership Symposium, March 23, 2018 at the Ontario Science Centre (North York). Working in partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum and the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, the Ontario Museum Association (OMA) is pleased to announce that registration has opened for the Inclusive Museum Leadership Symposium. Join us as we launch our Inclusive Museum toolkit for a day of inspired talks, panel discussion, interactive design thinking exercises and facilitated conversations to explore how Ontario museums can truly become inclusive spaces, and practice inclusion and equity at every level. This symposium is for anyone interested in creating a diverse and inclusive culture at a museum or relevant organization who wants to: -UNDERSTAND the case for a diverse and inclusive approach -CHALLENGE convention and broaden their understanding of diversity and inclusion -EMBRACE inclusive practices that move inclusion from the margins to mainstream museum work -LEARN from the successes and struggles of other organizations working to build a diverse and inclusive museum culture The OMA is keen to help facilitate what we hope will be an ongoing conversation in which the OMA, our members, and communities in Ontario will continue to engage going forward as we work collectively to become practitioners of inclusion. Presenters include: -Shelley Falconer (President and CEO, Art Gallery of Hamilton) -Karen Carter (Executive Director, Myseum of Toronto) -Gaëtane Verna (Director, Power Plant Gallery) -Jess Mitchell (Senior Manager, Research + Design, Inclusive Design Research Centre, OCAD University) -Mark Campbell (Professor and Director, FCAD Forum for Cultural Strategies, Ryerson University) -Members of our Advisory Committee and staff from our 10 museum partners who have developed case studies for our Inclusive Museum toolkit, launching at this event.
