Regional Museum Networks

The OMA is working with members to strengthen and build the province-wide network of Regional Museum Networks (RMNs).

The objectives of the group include to:

  • Facilitate communication, consultation and information exchange between regional museum network organizations,
  • Share leading (best) practices, tools and resources, and 

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the OMA on areas of common interest, such as advocacy and professional development. 

Some of the RMNs already participate in cooperative activities such as skill-sharing, networking, and collaborative marketing. A Steering committee of volunteer network representatives is looking to more formally connect the networks to each other while working closely with the OMA for important advocacy and collaborations to benefit all Ontario museums.

The Regional Museum Networks meet regularly to further engage in our advocacy work related to finding adequate and sustained funding for museums in Ontario as identified in Ontario’s Museums 2025: Strategic Vision and Action Plan and other documents recently presented by the OMA to the Ontario government and various Ministries. We believe that RMNs both in the short and longer term will be able to better support each other in local advocacy efforts while also joining in collective action and engagement with all levels of government.

Together and with the OMA, museums in communities across the province must have a shared voice on advocacy issues of common interests, including a request for MHSTCI to seek regional input to develop the museum funding model.
