Session Description

What is youth engagement, why should you care, and how do you even begin? In addition to answering these questions, this session will provide an overview of three different models of youth engagement, with specific examples of how we have used them to develop public and school programs for the National Capital Commission.

We will share our best practices for consulting youth, co-developing programs with youth, and providing youth with spaces and opportunities for self-expression.

Following the presentation, we will lead session participants in a discussion where they will share ideas and brainstorm ways that these models can be applied at their own institutions. Participants will leave with concrete strategies for engaging youth in their museums that they can begin implementing right away.
