On FridayMarch 23, 2018, the OMA launched Inclusion 2025: A Practitioner's Guide to Inclusive Museums at the Inclusive Museum Leadership Symposium, a day of inspired talks, panel discussion, interactive design thinking exercises and facilitated conversations to explore how Ontario museums can truly become inclusive spaces, and practice inclusion and equity at every level.

The Symposium addressed the need to create a diverse and inclusive culture at a museum or relevant organization that will:
 

  • UNDERSTAND the case for a diverse and inclusive approach
  • CHALLENGE convention and broaden their understanding of diversity and inclusion
  • EMBRACE inclusive practices that move inclusion from the margins to mainstream museum work
  • LEARN from the successes and struggles of other organizations working to build a diverse and inclusive museum culture

Mark Campbell (Professor and Director, FCAD Forum for Cultural Strategies, Ryerson University)

Presenters also included staff from our 10 museum partners, and our Advisory Committee members, who have co-developed our Inclusive Museums 2025 Practicioner's Guide, who spoke to their experiences, successes and struggles in delivering projects to build a more diverse and inclusive museum culture at their sites:
