The Ontario Museum Association, our partners and members of the Indigenous Collections Working Group are pleased to invite you to join us online on March 25-26, 2021 for the Indigenous Collections Symposium: Mashkawatgong-mamawewiziwin – strengthening our bonds, sharing our practices. Following from the Indigenous Collections Symposium: Promising Practices, Challenging Issues and Changing the System, this symposium takes inspiration from the ideas discussed at that event and continues the conversation. With a focus on putting ideas into practice, this two-day event aims to support and connect museum professionals from Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and members of Indigenous communities.

Location:

Online. Participants will access the event through the Attendify online event platform and sessions will be streamed on Zoom.

Dates of Event:

March 24, 2021 - Pre-symposium Strengthening Our Bonds Networking Event hosted by the Indigenous Internship Program at the Canadian Museum of History, 7pm-8:30pm
March 25-26, 2021 - Symposium sessions and discussions 9am-4pm

Symposium Title:

The Symposium Working Group proposed the theme of strengthening our bonds, sharing our practices, and Kitigan Zibi Annishinabeg Elders kindly provided the translation to Mashkawatgong-mamawewiziwin. Many thanks to staff at Kitigan Zibi Annishinabeg Cultural Centre for providing a recording of the correct pronunciation.

Target Audience:

  • This symposium is an opportunity for people from organizations and communities with Indigenous collections in their care to learn from each other’s practices and to network with others.
  • This symposium will be of interest to museum workers and community members who identify as Indigenous.

Strengthening Our Bonds Networking Event hosted by the Indigenous Internship Program at the Canadian Museum of History

Strengthening our Bonds is an online social and networking gathering open to all registered participants of the Indigenous Collections Symposium and hosted by the Canadian Museum of History Indigenous Internship Program. There is no additional charge to participate but separate registration is required. The event will take place in Zoom meetings format on March 24, 2021, 7pm-8:30pm.

  • Registration for the Strengthening Our Bonds Networking Event has now closed.
  • Registered participants have received the link to participate by email.

Symposium Registration Rates:

OMA and GOG Members: $100+HST
Non-Members: $160+HST
Students: $50+HST

Bursaries:

A limited number of bursaries have been allocated for individuals representing Indigenous-run organizations.

  • These bursaries are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Bursaries cover the cost of registration.
  • Bursaries will be awarded to up to two people per organization.

  3. On the payment page select Pay Later from the list of payment options.
  4. Submit!
