Ontario’s museums are facing increasing demands on their work while trying to address the evolving needs and expectations of their communities and stakeholders in an ever changing landscape. In order to better respond to our members’ expressed needs, while providing strategic support to Ontario’s museums, the Ontario Museum Association launched the three-year museumsuccession project in 2013. This project, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, worked with the museum community to ensure a sustainable, vibrant and engaging sector.

Our province-wide project, in partnership with museum networks across Ontario, worked to strengthen Ontario’s museum sector through three pillars of work:

1. enhancing governance to further develop organizational leadership to support succession,
2. supporting and fostering inclusive museums with strengthened relationships with their communities to ensure ongoing support, and
3. working with Emerging Museum Professionals to foster the development of a strong, connected and empowered emerging workforce.
