    The state of the world has changed over the past several weeks. The Federal Government is announcing new information on a daily basis and information is changing rapidly. With this never ending stream of information, we want to help you understand the announced programs and what they mean for your organization and staff. In recognition of this we are happy to present a summary of the Federal Support that is available to organizations. We will cover a brief overview of the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) and how these programs interact with other announced programs. We will share what we know and understand and will open up to your questions to help you understand and apply these programs to your organizations.

    On Tuesday, April 21, 2020 the first edition of OMA Webinar Tuesdays took place, Caring for Heritage Collections during the COVID-19 Pandemic with Irene Karsten from the Canadian Conservation Institute. The webinar recording is now available online HERE.

Every week there will be a brief presentation from OMA staff on a theme followed by an open discussion. This is an opportunity for you to connect with the OMA and with your colleagues across the province.

    While museums are closed to ensure social distancing in the face of COVID-19 they are actively engaging audiences online!

    The OMA invites its institutional members to join the #MuseumFromHome campaign on the Discover Ontario Museums website to highlight the activities available from home for teachers, school kids, families and museum lovers alike.

    Museums can be featured on the #MuseumFromHome page by updating their What's On events and tagging them with the campaign. For an instruction guide, please email membership@museumsontario.ca.

    An Institutional membership includes a public listing on the Discover Ontario Museums website– accessed by approximately 6,000 unique visitors a month, with 60% from the US or abroad directed from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport website.

    POSTPONED: CMS: Artifacts


    THIS COURSE HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

    April 21, 2020: In light of the global pandemic of COVID-19, we have made the decision to postpone the Artifacts Certificate in Museum Studies course originally scheduled for June 17-19, 2020 at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. We are acting in line with directives and recommendations of public health and government authorities. The health and safety of our members, communities, and staff are of the utmost importance, and we wish to exercise caution and prevent the spread of the virus.

    Fundraising 101: Are You Keeping up with the Digital Revolution?
    Tuesday, April 28, 2020 - 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

    Join Canada Helps as they share digital knowledge and best practices accumulated from working with tens of thousands of Canadian charities. They will offer you a glimpse of the state of giving in Canada and how to implement digital strategies to succeed with online fundraising.

    As we navigate COVID-19, this workshop will also include relevant information as it relates to:
    • The Giving Landscape since the pandemic began- what changes have we seen
    • Should we be fundraising now? 
    • Communicating with donors during Covid-19
    • Transitioning in person events and peer to peer fundraisers to a completely virtual experience & sharing innovative examples we have seen thus far.

    Federal Funding Update
    Prime Minister Announces $500million for Heritage and Culture


    The Government of Canada is taking action to help Canadian businesses and organizations keep their doors open, keep their employees on the payroll, and recover quickly when Canada bounces back from this crisis.

    The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced new actions to protect Canadian jobs and provide more support to businesses and organizations dealing with the economic impacts of COVID-19:

    • $500 million to establish a COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations to help address the financial needs of affected organizations within these sectors so they can continue to support artists and athletes. This measure is consistent with the government’s other existing COVID-19 support measures for wages and fixed costs for organizations.

    Impact on Canadian Economy and Consumer Sentiment - Information from Destination Ontario.


    In order to understand the consumer mindset and to inform marketing recovery strategies, Destination Ontario has access to various confidential and publicly available economic and public attitude and behaviour research studies. The core of the information is from economic models and consumer sentiment research studies that are structured to better understand when and where to re-engage visitors to think about travelling and with what messaging. It contains information on forecasted economic outcomes, a micro-economic outlook, a travel outlook and media consumption information.

    CMA Strategic Planning: Community Engagement Survey

    Open until April 24, 2020


    The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is in a time of transition and is distributing a Community Engagement Survey as part of its 3-year strategic planning process to determine how it can best attract and serve its constituents. We invite you to share your opinions on the CMA and its work in supporting museums and professionals in the sector throughout Canada. The survey should take approximately 10-12 minutes to complete. It will close on Friday, April 24, 2020.

    This survey is being independently administered and tabulated by Arts Consulting Group Canada.

    Respondents who complete the survey and provide their contact information by April 24, 2020 will be entered in a draw to receive one of five complimentary registrations to the next CMA Conference.

    Specialist, Heritage Programming
    City of Ottawa
    Part-time Continuous


    The Heritage Programming Specialist is responsible for interpretive and educational program development as well as delivery at the City of Ottawa's historic sites and museums. Responsible for ongoing work on heritage projects, including preparation and coordination of heritage programming materials and supplies. Responsible for historical research for educational and promotional use. Works with the Education and Interpretation Programs Officers to develop and deliver heritage programming to Museum users. Receives and directs visitors, answers public inquiries (such as genealogy research and questions related to the site's history) and dispenses public information. Performs reception and clerical duties as needed including program bookings, mailings, reservations and confirmations.
