Ontario's Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA)
Legislation comes into force October 19, 2021
Ontario's Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010, (ONCA) will come into force on October 19, 2021. The ONCA provide a modern legislative framework for Ontario’s not-for-profit corporations. The legislation will significantly reduce the bureaucratic burden on not-for-profit corporations, moving from paper-based filings to digital services and providing them with enhanced flexibility. For the first time ever, Ontario not-for-profit corporations will be able to access an online government system for registrations and filings, saving them time and reducing duplication of paperwork. Features like pre-defined text will help users move along error-free and reduce legal costs.
There will be a 3-year transition period once ONCA is in force to make any necessary changes to governing documents.

Ontario Pauses Exit from Roadmap to Reopen
Ontario also Makes COVID-19 Vaccination Policies
Mandatory for High-Risk Settings
Out of an abundance of caution the government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is pausing the exit from the Roadmap to Reopen. The Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts will continue to monitor the data to determine when it is safe to exit the Roadmap and lift the majority of public health and workplace safety measures currently in place. To protect vulnerable patients and staff in settings where the risk of contracting and transmitting COVID-19 and the Delta variant is higher, the Chief Medical Officer of Health has also issued a directive mandating hospitals and home and community care service providers to have a COVID-19 vaccination policy for employees, staff, contractors, students and volunteers, and for ambulance services to have a COVID-19 vaccination policy for paramedics. The vaccination policy must be effective no later than September 7, 2021, and at a minimum will require these individuals to provide proof of one of three things: - Full vaccination against COVID-19;
- A medical reason for not being vaccinated against COVID-19; or
- Completion of a COVID-19 vaccination educational session.
Individuals who do not provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 will be required to undertake regular antigen testing. These settings will be required to track and report on the implementation of their policies to the provincial government. This is similar to the vaccination policy requirements currently in place for long-term care homes. Read the News Release HERE. The OMA will provide additional information as available. |

Canada Federal Election Advocacy 2021
Canadians will be headed to the polls for a Federal Election on September 20, 2021.
The OMA is working with our provincial and national counterparts to coordinate advocacy efforts, priorities, and messaging for the federal election.
We want to hear your thoughts, concerns, and priorities regarding the needs of museums, especially in the context of pandemic recovery, to help support our efforts. Survey of Heritage Institutions is here!
How has your heritage organization or site been
impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic?
Canadian Heritage sent out the survey the week of August 2nd via email. The survey is limited to not-for-profit heritage institutions, which includes museums, art galleries, archives, historic sites, zoos and botanical gardens. If you have not received the survey, but would like to be added to Canadian Heritage’s survey list, please kindly fill in your name and email address using the link below. Certificate in Museum Studies RevisionSurvey: We want to hear from you!
Deadline: September 3rd, 2021The OMA is undertaking a revision of its Certificate in Museum Studies (CMS), with consulting team Nordicity in association with Pure & Applied. As part of this process, we want to hear from you! Please click here to access the survey. This survey will help us to shape the CMS curriculum to respond to the current needs of the sector and incorporate contemporary practices in museology. Rest assured that all survey responses collected as part of this study will be held confidentially by Nordicity on secure, Canadian-based servers. Individual responses will never be shared with the Ontario Museum Association or anyone else. Two years ago the OMA started a new tradition of recognizing our colleagues who have retired in the past year at the annual OMA Awards Gala. This year’s awards rollout will look a little different, but we look forward to continuing the tradition!
Share the following information with us so that we can honour the contributions that these individuals have made to our dynamic sector.

- How long they worked in museums and/or at the organization from which they retired
- Some other interesting fact or anecdote about what they achieved in their career
- Submissions are welcome to recognize retirees in any role at an organization.
