Session Description
As the OMA comes to Niagara, the home of some of the first purpose-built museums in the province (Niagara Falls Museum 1832, 1860, Niagara-on-the-Lake Historical Museum formed in 1895, building built in 1907), we will present a panel involving three researchers who have done research into the history of museums in Ontario, indeed Canada. Indeed given the momentous occasion of the OMA's 40th anniversary, the presenters will give varied perspectives on the various ancestors, the events of 1968 to the present and points along our professional journey. Among the issues addressed will be the degree to which museums have been destinations or not in their histories.
This is a session intended to give participants a sense of history as a sector, enjoy some stories, and reflect on some of the larger issues as they work in our field.
