New Funding Opportunity:
Making Cultural Spaces Safe During COVID-19
Canadian Cultural Spaces Fund
In Budget 2021, the Government of Canada made an investment in Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (CCSF) of an additional $15 million in 2021–2022 to provide a one-time project-based financial support for arts and heritage organizations across Canada to upgrade their space to be able to open safely while following relevant public health guidelines related to COVID-19.
Support for “Making Cultural Spaces Safe During COVID-19” (the Fund) can be used for renovating or adapting spaces to make them safe for workers and the public to return, as well as the purchase and installation of health and safety-related specialized equipment.
The initiative can fund up to 100% of eligible expenses or $150,000 per fiscal year in the case of grants, and 100% of eligible expenses or $300,000 per year in the case of contributions.
There is no deadline to apply for the Fund. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and assessed as they are received until the funds are fully disbursed. Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure that the program has sufficient time to assess their application and the organization has enough time to carry out its project. All projects must be carried out before March 31, 2022.

Join us for an information session on the Making Cultural Spaces Safe During COVID-19 Initiative from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, Department of Canadian Heritage.
The Initiative will provide 1-time project-based support to arts and heritage organizations to upgrade their spaces and purchase specialized equipment needed to safely reopen while following public health guidelines. The Initiative seeks to increase the number of cultural facilities able to re-open safely to the public and staff.
In this webinar, Regional Manager of Arts Programs Valerie Hopper and Senior Program Advisor Sarah Hill will provide an overview of the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund and share further details on the Making Cultural Spaces Safe During COVID-19 Initiative, including project examples, eligibility, and timeline.
Following the presentation, there will be time for Q&A with participants.

As one of two concurrent discussions this afternoon, conference attendees who join this session will meet and brainstorm with museum professionals at different stages in their careers. Join Angela Cassie, the Vice-President of Strategic Transformation and Inclusion at the National Gallery of Canada, Ontario Museum Professional's Michael Rikley-Lancaster, the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals’ Madeline Smolarz, and Museum Professionals of Colour’s Jingshu Helen Yao in exploring how museums can support and nurture a diverse workforce. This session will focus on museum workers as individuals navigating their museum careers and doing so in ways that are mindful of all the identities they bring to their work.
