CMOG  Update

We know that Minister MacLeod has committed to early release of heritage and museum operating grants. We understand that for the 2020-2021 granting year, CMOG recipients will be receiving communications from the Ministry in the next 2-3 weeks, regarding what will be a simplified application process for faster, easier completion. The Ministry is not testing the standards. For some key program requirements (such as financial statements, etc.) submission will be delayed to later in the fiscal year.

The OMA was able to bring members' concerns to the Ministry. Given the unique situation of the pandemic, the Ministry provided assurance to the OMA that museums will not be penalized for this granting year (2020-21) or next (2021-22) for reduced hours or staffing due to circumstances beyond their control.

CMOG recipients are encouraged to update their information in Transfer Payments Ontario in preparation for the simplified application.

Museum Re-Opening
OMA working with Ministry for Ontario-specific guidelines

As lockdowns gradually come to an end in several regions and countries, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has released a list of basic measures that can be taken to protect the health of both visitors and staff.

The Ontario Museum Association is working with our Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries to develop Ontario-specific guidelines for museums to re-open, including an awareness of other provinces' practices and guidelines.

We encourage members to consult relevant policies & legislation.
