Happy Holidays!
As the New Year approaches and our thoughts turn to future hopes (and resolutions), now is also the time for us to work together towards a bright and successful future for Ontario’s museums.
On November 24th, the Looking Ahead Task Force, supported by the OMA, released its proposed strategic version and action plan for the sector - Ontario’s Museums 2025: Looking Ahead. The Looking Ahead Task Force believes that Ontario’s Museums 2025serves as a pathway, one that leads from the current discussion of stability and sustainability to a future of renewal and excellence. This work describes a process for concentrated actions in strategic areas to realize long-term objectives and outcomes.
A first for museums in Ontario, I am writing today to stress the importance of this document and how you can contribute to its successOntario's Museums 2025 is currently being considered by OMA Council and we have asked that it be shared broadly with museums, stakeholders and funders for consultation. We ask you, your museums, staff, volunteers, board members (everyone!) to carefully consider its information, to engage with the process, and to provide feedback to help strengthen final results.  Please read the document and circulate broadly. Better yet, also talk to your colleagues about the document.  Set a resolution to speak to at least three co-workers or others about what museums should mean to our community by 2025.
You can let us know your thoughts by writing us, posting, or tweeting at:
OMA Forum, Ontario's Museums 2025
You can also participate in a future online discussion. In 2016, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm on:
  • Thursday, January 21
  • Thursday, February 11
  • Tuesday, February 23

All feedback received by February 29 will be considered by the Looking Ahead Task Force and OMA Council in finalizing the vision and action plan.

With your participation, Ontario’s Museums 2025 will represent a bold, sector-led vision with robust actions that will position Ontario’s museums for future success.

Looking forward to your comments.
Best Wishes,
Clark Bernat
OMA President
