Join us in Hamilton on November 7

Conference Connections is a successful mentorship program co-coordinated by the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals Committee (GOEMP) and the Ontario Museum Association (OMA). It is designed to introduce Emerging Museum Professionals (EMPs) to more established museum professionals, facilitating professional networking and exchange.

Join us as a mentor or mentee on Monday November 7, 2022 at the OMA Annual Conference in Hamilton for your very own Conference Connection! Mentors and mentees will be paired before Conference and can meet during the networking break (1:45 - 2:30pm).

Please submit your online registration form by October 10, 2022.  Please note:

  • spaces are limited
  • mentorship arrangement cannot be guaranteed
  • participants must be registered to attend the OMA Annual Conference in-person (November 7)
Register as a Mentor or Mentee

What is expected of Mentors? Be willing to share your wisdom and career insights with an emerging museum professional, gaining a fresh perspective in your field. We recommend that mentors have 5 years of sector experience.

Feedback from a past mentor: “I like the chance to sit down and have a real conversation with someone - find out what their goals are, talk about that, share experiences."

What is expected of Mentees? Be open to learning from the experiences of an established museum professional, sharing your own career aspirations and ideas about the future of museums.

Feedback from a past mentee: "I really appreciated an opportunity to meet with someone who has insight into the cultural sector through their career. I also like that it ensured there was a friendly face to talk to at the conference."

As an organization of provincial scope, the Ontario Museum Association recognizes that its members and community live and work on the lands and territories of Indigenous peoples. Toronto, where the OMA offices are located, is the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, Haudenosaunee and the Huron Wendat. We wish to express our gratitude for the resources we are using and pay respect to the rich and ongoing Indigenous history of what is now Ontario and Canada.

Our Mission
The Ontario Museum Association strengthens capacity among institutions and individuals active in Ontario’s museum sector, facilitates excellence and best practices, and improves the communication and collaboration of its membership. The Association advocates for the important role of Ontario’s museums to society, working with all stakeholders, related sectors and industries, and other professional organizations.
