Speech from the Throne: July 12 at 1:55pm
 
Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, will deliver the Speech from the Throne on Thursday, July 12 at 1:55pm to open the first session of Ontario’s 42ndParliament. The Speech from the Throne is critical in announcing the priorities of the new government to the public.

New Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport
 
The OMA wishes to extend its congratulations to Minister Sylvia Jones (MPP Dufferin-Caledon) on her appointment to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. With culture remaining in the Ministry alongside tourism and sport, museums have an opportunity to demonstrate all facets of their impact, including economics.

Other Ministers whom the OMA looks forward to working with in service of museums include:
  • Minister of Education: Lisa Thompson (MPP Huron-Bruce)
    Minister Thompson has previously served as PC Critic for international trade and Indigenous relations and reconciliation, and has been an outspoken critic of rural school closures. 
  • Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade: Jim Wilson (MPP Simcoe-Grey) Minister Wilson served in the Cabinets of Mike Harris and Ernie Eves, responsible for the Ministries of Health, Energy, and Northern Development and Mines
  • Minister of Infrastructure: Monte McNaughton (MPP Lambton-Kent-Middlesex)
    Minister McNaughton has advocated for substantial investments across the province for the construction and repair of roads, bridges, and sewers.
