ONmuseums: 2 Chances for Funding this Month

From the Canadian Museums Association: 

This second call for applications follows the announcement of $2.6 million in supplemental funding provided by the Government of Canada and devoted to YCW-BCH.  If your first-round application was waitlisted and you have not yet been contacted, YCW Program Officers will be contacting you soon.

To support the program during the pandemic, some special program considerations have been made this year:

• The YCW contribution to a BCH internship may instead cover up to 85% of total project costs; *
• The program cap (previously $10,000 per domestic position) is not in effect this year.
• As always, applications from Indigenous organizations, applications for projects aimed at Indigenous interns, and applications for projects focusing on Indigenous cultural heritage are encouraged.

*Note: funding remains limited by availability and if approved you may receive a funding offer for less than 85% of total project cost

This year the Ontario Museum Association Conference is going virtual! With this new format comes new possibilities; the OMA is planning on taking advantage of all a virtual conference can offer.

A co-presentation with the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals Committee.

This session will consist of 3 key components in the style of “Ask Me Anything” format popularized on social media in recent years. “Ask” refers to questions posed by emerging museum professionals in the Ontario community. “Me” refers to Irene Chalmers, who came forward to generous volunteer her time to make her rich experience accessible through this platform. “Anything” references any topic that intersects with the museum sector, museum jobs, museum networking, etc… anything that may be of interest to EMPs who would benefit from this information at this stage in their careers!

GOEMP Committee Chair Madeline Smolarz will join Irene as moderator to keep track of and pose incoming questions on behalf of the EMP community.

The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) & AAMC Foundation has appointed five new Trustees At Large who will join the board as of January 1, 2021. The new Trustees bring a depth and range of knowledge and expertise as art advisors, directors, curators, and gallerists. The new Trustees include:

• Myrtis Bedolla, Founding Director, Galerie Myrtis and Former Board Member, Association of African American Museums
• Wendy Chang, Director, Rennie Collection 
• William C. Gautreaux, Managing Partner, MLP Holdings LLC
• Lynda Roscoe Hartigan, Deputy Director for Collections and Research and Chief Innovation Officer, Royal Ontario Museum (as of September 2020)
• Filiz Çakır Phillip, Curator, Aga Khan Museum
