Alberto Garlandini is Vice President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Garlandini is a member of the ICOM Committee for Museum Definition, Prospects and Potentials, and previously served as President of the Italian National Committee of ICOM. At the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was a member of the National Commission for the promotion of Italian culture abroad, and was president of Lombardy's Film Commission Foundation. He has published over 180 books, essays, and articles on the topic of museums and cultural heritage in Italian, English, and French.

Alberto Garlandini will speak about international networks, ICOM and how 'Museums have no borders, they have a network.'

Provincial Government to Support Culture and Tourism Attraction Infrastructure Projects 


Ontario's government is investing up to $26 million in infrastructure projects to ensure that Ontario's culture and tourism attractions remain world-class destinations. These projects include repairs and replacements of roofs, windows, parking lots and septic systems, as well as restoration projects and work that needs to be done throughout the year.

The funding will focus on the ministry’s agencies, attractions and transfer payment entities through the ministry's Repair and Rehabilitation Capital Program. Some of the museums that will receive funding are:

  • Fort William Historic Park
  • Science North
  • Royal Ontario Museum
  • Huronia Historic Park

ICOM Canada Proposes to Postpone Museum Definition Vote

The ICOM Extraordinary General Assembly scheduled for September 7, 2019 as part of the Kyoto 2019 General Conference, is to vote on a proposed new definition of museums, which was released on July 22, 2019. Learn more about the process by visiting ICOM’s website HERE

ICOM Canada joined a number of other National Committees and the ICOM Europe Regional Alliance in proposing that the Museum Definition Vote be postponed.
