Healthy Parks Healthy People Consultation Survey
Deadline: November 25, 2019
Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is welcoming survey responses from across the province as part of the consultation to improve Ontario Parks’ programs, policies and partnerships. The consultation focuses on the link between human health and healthy ecosystems. Many museums contribute to the natural environment of their communities, through initiatives like heritage gardens, nature trails, and their contributions to stewardship and conservation of natural heritage. Ontario’s Museums 2025: Strategic Vision & Action Plan includes the following goal for the province's cultural institutions:
- Ontario’s museums are key social agents–pivotal to the success, health and wellbeing of Ontario’s communities.
Museums are engaging with this goal in a number of ways, through innovative programs that seek to improve health at the individual and the community level.
- The OMA's Annual Conference 2014, Healthy Museums, Vibrant Communities, focussed closely on museums' role in health, including keynote speaker Maurice Davies. See Conference presentations HERE.
- The OMA and the ROM are connected to the Alliance for Healthier Communities' work on Social Prescriptions. Read more HERE.

Ontario offering free children's admissions to museums
In the 2019 Fall Economic Statement, Ontario’s Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries announced free children's admissions to sites across the province, based on the existing model of the Fun Pass program.
In a statement to Global News, Minister Lisa MacLeod remarked:
“By increasing children’s access to Ontario’s museums, attractions, galleries and historic sites, we’re encouraging families to explore all that Ontario has to offer while driving indirect investments in local communities across the province.”

- 22% of Ontario museums are free to enter
- 23% of Ontario museums have admission-by-donation policies
- A total of 88% of Ontario museums can be entered for free at some times, thanks to special programs or offers

Consultations for Budget 2020
Ahead of Ontario’s 2020 Budget, the provincial government has launched a consultation process. The timing and process for in-person consultations have not yet been released, but written and online submissions are now being accepted.

Community Exhibits Program Applications

Ontario’s Legislative Assembly is once again accepting applications for the Community Exhibits Program, which is an opportunity for Ontario’s cultural organizations to showcase their treasures and stories for the thousands of visitors to the west wing gallery.

$20,000 from the Ontario government’s Seniors Community Grant Program will help support senior docent programs at the Woodstock Museum National Historic Site.
The Grant supports programs that help seniors stay engaged and socially connected in their own communities.

Park House Museum National Historic Site recognized with new plaque
Amherstburg's Park House Museum, built in 1796, was nationally recognized by Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, who unveiled a plaque commemorating the house's significance.
The House is one of the oldest in the region, and with its attached warehouse reflects the economic history along the Detroit River.

Ontario's Regional Museum Networks (RMNs) have been working with the OMA to collect submitted applications to this year's Community Museum Operating Grant (CMOG), to be able to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the sector.
