Museums as medicine? Exploring the healing potential of cultural spaces
Concurrent Session at the upcoming OMA Annual Conference 2019

Sara Bhatti, Alliance for Healthier Communities & Christian Blake, Royal Ontario Museum

Can cultural spaces contribute to people’s health and well-being? Are we overreaching to think so? Are they already doing it?

In December of 2018, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) launched a pilot social prescribing project in collaboration with the Alliance for Healthier Communities. Social prescriptions are a means for healthcare, community and social service professionals to refer people to non-medical services that, along with existing treatments, can be a therapeutic tool for improving health and well-being.
