OMA Council Nominations Now Open
Deadline: July 30, 2020

The duties and responsibilities of Council members are legal, ethical, procedural and guided by Towards 2025: The Ontario Museum Association’s Strategic Plan. The council is responsible for policy direction guiding the affairs of a museum association serving institutions and individuals across the province through a variety of professional services, programs and products. Council is expected to provide sound fiscal and ethical management and is legally responsible for the activities of the Association. In accordance with existing bylaws, Council members are elected for a two-year term of office at the Annual General Meeting and serve without remuneration, save for travel expenses incurred to attend Council meetings.
The Term of Office is 2 years. Nominees must be individual members of the Ontario Museum Association, and both the nominator and seconder must be members in good standing (individual, institutional or commercial). Not a member? Join online now.

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, and in consideration of its impact on both individual and institutional members, the OMA has made the difficult decision to postpone this year's in-person Conference. The Conference, originally scheduled to take place in Huntsville in October 2020, is postponed. Our tentative plan is to hold the AGM, celebrate the OMA Awards of Excellence, and potentially host other events online as appropriate this coming fall.
In view of this postponement, the OMA wants to thank all our stakeholders for their understanding. The Association will be in touch with all partners and stakeholders to consider potential and continued involvement.

Ontario Extends Declaration of Emergency Until June 30, 2020
In consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Ontario is extending the provincial Declaration of Emergency to June 30th. As Ontario charts a path to recovery, the Declaration will support the continued enforcement of emergency orders that give hospitals and long-term care homes the necessary flexibility to respond to COVID-19 and protect vulnerable populations and the public as the province reopens For the complete details about the extension, visit HERE. |

Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) Program Extended!
The Prime Minister just announced this week that the CERB’s maximum eligibility period is extended by 8 weeks, meaning that individuals who’ve benefited from it since mid-March will now be eligible until the end of August. A co-presentation of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries and the Ontario Museum Association
In this time of extreme uncertainty, scenario planning offers a methodology for thinking about what might happen so that organizations can prepare for a range of possibilities. Usually, when we plan for the future, we have a pretty good idea of what the world looks like: our purpose, our facility, our collection, our funding, our employees, our visitors are all at least somewhat predictable. The pandemic, social distancing and the resulting economic impacts, and the demands for true social change all require us to set aside those predictions and assumptions.

Judy Wolfe and Karen Wishart of Consulting Matrix will facilitate a small group of sector leaders while other participants observe the process. Observing participants will be able to ask questions of the panelists as they work through the agenda and scenario planning.
Participants will learn how to plan for the long-term under extreme uncertainty and imagine possible futures.
