Need to Know
Ontario Announces Provincewide Shutdown

After assessing trends in key public health indicators, Ontario is moving into a Provincewide Shutdown to stop the spread of COVID-19 on December 26, at 12:01 a.m.

Amendments have also been made to O. Reg. 82/20 Rules for Areas in Stage 1. Please read the news release for information on how these changes may affect your business and operations.

The document Provincewide Shutdown: Businesses Permitted to Open and Sector Specific Restrictions pg. 22, effective December 26 at 12:01 a.m., indicates Museums and cultural amenities closed

Outdoor organized public events and social gatherings, which must comply with public health advice on physical distancing, are limited to 10 people outdoors (pg. 8).
The impacts of these time-limited measures will be evaluated throughout the 14 days in Northern Ontario and 28 days in Southern Ontario to determine if it is safe to lift any restrictions or if they need to be extended. The current COVID-19 Response Framework will be paused when the Provincewide Shutdown comes into effect.

The restrictions are in effect for all of Ontario from Saturday, December 26, 2020 to Saturday, January 9, 2021.

The restrictions would remain in effect from Saturday, January 9, 2021 to Saturday, January 23, 2021 for all 27 public health unit regions in Southern Ontario (refer to Appendix A). 
Minister MacLeod Townhall

In a multisectoral townhall townhall on December 22, Minister Macleod presented on supports available to businesses and reminded stakeholders of the property tax and energy bill rebates. The Minister stated there will be a similar presentation and more information provided in the new year for cultural organizations [museums], mentioning Ontario Trillium Foundation and Ontario Arts Council funding.

Canadian Canoe Museum confirms viability of Johnson Park for new museum build
Clears way for next phase of feasibility work
The Canadian Canoe Museum (CCM) announced on December 22 that Johnson Park, the City-owned property at 2077 Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough, ON, has been deemed viable for the building of its new canoe museum. This confirmation clears the way for moving to the next phase of feasibility activities and determining next steps with the City of Peterborough. Johnson Park is situated on Little Lake, north of Beavermead Park and south of the Parks Canada-Trent Severn Waterway head offices.

Assistant Curator
Grey Roots Museum & Archives

The County of Grey is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to join the Economic Development, Tourism & Culture Department as an Assistant Curator for Grey Roots Museum & Archives.

Reporting to the Curator, the Assistant Curator is responsible for the maintaining all museum collections records to museum standards, including registering, processing, documenting, cataloguing, digitizing and tracking all new acquisitions, the permanent artefact collection and managing incoming and outgoing loans. The Assistant Curator is also responsible for performing conservation treatments on museum artefacts including the appropriate research, evaluation, and treatment tests to devise appropriate options for conservation treatments.

The Corporation of the City of Windsor

Reporting to the Executive Director of Recreation & Culture or designate, this position will bring vision, leadership and oversight to the Cultural Affairs and Special Events division and will serve as a primary liaison between the City and the Arts, Heritage and Cultural communities, as well as with related Boards of Directors, volunteers and levels of Government and agencies.

Facility Rental and Sales Coordinator
Fanshawe Pioneer Village

The Facility Rental & Sales Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning, organization, supervision and delivery of a Department that includes three revenue centres at Fanshawe Pioneer Village:  the museum Gift Shop (Denfield General Store), Food Services and the Facility Rental Program.  This position will act as the key administrator for all facility rentals, which includes wedding and corporate rentals.  The Coordinator is responsible for the Department’s daily operations, inventory management, rental event coordination and staffing resources.
