Description
Itinerary: Visit the
Brantford Public Library
, and learn how the artist behind
La Landscape de Kanata
worked with Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and community members on a major public art piece commissioned by a public art gallery and a municipality, and how historic and current relationships came into play throughout the project. Discuss the interpretation of difficult subjects through public art by learning about
Hope
, a public art piece honouring the loss of a child. Hear how
Bell Homestead National Historic Site
incorporates Alexander Graham Bell’s work as a revolutionary teacher of the deaf, the influences of his parents in this regard, and how he is regarded within the deaf community to this day.
Woodland Cultural Centre
uses video to tell compelling stories. How do you debrief with audiences that may have their own trauma? How can you work with Indigenous communities to respectfully and inclusively share Indigenous history. Study tour departs form the Brantford Best Western Hotel & Conference Centre at 8:30am and returns at 4:00pm.
