“The Dundas Experience” will explore how Dundas Museum and Archives has adapted to better serve and reflect the community in which it is situated. Participants will explore the unique challenges faced by the community of Dundas as a former town which was amalgamated with Hamilton in 2000. The study tour will specifically highlight the significance of Black history in Dundas through the walking tour and guest lectures. Staff presentations and behind-the-scenes tours will provide insight into exhibition research and development, public programming, collections management, and community partnerships.

It’s the Little Things - Small Steps Towards Continuous Improvement at the Hamilton Civic Museums

“It’s the Little Things: Small Steps Towards Continuous Improvement at the Hamilton Civic Museums” will give participants the opportunity to explore and learn about the City of Hamilton’s culture and heritage through some of their museums and historic sites: the Hamilton Museum of Steam & TechnologyWhitehern Historic House and Garden, and Dundurn National Historic Site, which includes Dundurn Castle, the historic Kitchen Garden, and the Hamilton Military Museum. Participants will engage with how front-line museum staff have actively worked to translate corporate strategic goals into bite-size, attainable actions, demonstrating how small things can make big improvements to the visitor experience and can help museums tackle big concepts in tangible ways.

Both Study Tour groups will gather in the lobby of the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel (116 King Street West, Hamilton, ON, L8P 4V3) at 9:00am. Both tours will depart at 9:30am sharp. Both tours are scheduled to return to the Sheraton Hotel at 5:00pm but exact timing is subject to change. Please plan accordingly.

All transportation, admission to each site and lunch is included in the registration fee. 

Remember to dress for the weather. Wear layers and bring your warm coat, hat, gloves, comfortable walking shoes, and an umbrella if necessary. In the event of extreme weather conditions, both Study Tour organizers will have alternative plans for outdoor activities.


In case of unavailability on hotel rooms at the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel on November 7, a number of rooms have been set aside for OMA delegates at Staybridge Suites Hamilton - Downtown (5 minute walk from the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel). Book your accommodation HERE.

Cancellation Policy: 
A processing fee will be applied to all cancellations and transfers. Only written cancellation requests received before October 25, 2022 will be refunded, minus the 30% processing fee. Registrations received after October 25, 2022 are non-refundable. Transfers may be requested by email or phone. Upon receipt, the original registration rate and any event tickets purchased will transfer to the new attendee. Transfer requests will not be accepted after October 25, 2022.
