We have a program at the Meaford Museum that we call the "Green Hand Program". It's very simple but has been of great benefit to the Museum. Each interactive in the Museum has a graphic of a green hand on it that indicates the visitors can touch it. The words on the glove tell them what they can do, such as "play with me", "please read me", etc. This subtly reminds them that there are things they CAN'T touch. That was the original reason behind the program. It's also had some surprise benefits which we will be discussing.

This idea is geared toward small museums with few resources, a small staff, a small building and little time, but can be modified for larger institutions if they want to use it too.
