Pre-Conference Study Tour: Diversity Matters
Description
STUDY TOUR: Diversity Matters Wednesday November 2, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Peel is one of Canada’s most diverse regions. Explore themes of diversity and inclusion with the leaders of four cultural institutions where innovative partnerships are leading to meaningful connections. Study Tour Stops include: Art Gallery of Mississauga: (Content TBC) The Art Gallery of Mississauga’s Education and Programming philosophy is built upon three principles: ENGAGE, THINK and INSPIRE . These principles, combined with Creativity and Imagination reflect our high level of compassion and appreciation for the artist process; provide the highest quality introduction to critical thinking and instruction – for all ages. The AGM is a thinking space to engage with art! Museums of Mississauga: Staff will lead a conversation on creating meaningful connections with new audiences, embracing guest authority on subject matter, and sharing the platform of exhibition development with community members, using the exhibition ’Death Becomes Us’ at the Anchorage, Bradley Museum as a backdrop. There will be a lunch-time conversation with the Executive Director of Peel Aboriginal Network, Kris Noakes, on the topic of collaboration and sharing with several projects at the Museums. Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada: When Prime Minister Trudeau visited this museum he remarked that “the story of the Sikh community in Canada is, in fact, just the story of Canada.” Sikhs have made Canada their home since 1888. Join Pardeep Singh Nagra, Museum Executive Director, Human Rights Activist, and specialist in diversity, equity, and inclusion with Toronto District School Board, for a look at the exhibitions through the lens of social justice. Peel Art Gallery, Museums and Archives (PAMA): The final stop on the tour is PAMA, where staff from two museums (PAMA and Halton Heritage Services) will share lessons learned about inclusion, dealing with difficult subject matter, and co-creation in our new exhibition ‘Service and Remembrance: 150 Years of the Lorne Scots.’ Transportation for this Study Tour Generously supported by: PACART Fine Art & Exhibition Transportation Services Study tour begins at Novotel Mississauga and ends at Peel Art Gallery, Museums + Archives. Please arrive 15 minutes early to Novotel Mississauga lobby. Shuttle buses will be available to Novotel Mississauga from PAMA for those who choose not to stay for the Opening Reception
